Simple Sunday

Today I slept late, read the Sunday paper, and clipped coupons. I had lunch with my mom while discussing the menu for a party we are having on Thursday night. We spent a good part of the afternoon looking at recipes and trying to finalize our plans. I'm also planning on baking some bread and dessert for tonight, as well as making dinner.

It's a pretty quiet day around here. We are expecting thunderstorms any minute, so any plans for outdoor activity has been cancelled. We need the rain so I'm not complaining!

A Truly Simple Weekend

If you are a regular reader, you may have noticed that I haven't posted anything since Thursday afternoon. I didn't forget to nor am I ignoring my blog; but instead, I did this purposely. I decided to take an internet sabbatical this weekend. Sounds strange, doesn't it? Taking the weekend off from the internet?

Why would I ever do such a thing? I did it because I find myself spending way too much time on the computer, more specifically playing around online. When all you can think about is checking your email or what is new on facebook, you know there is a problem. The solution? Stay away from the computer all weekend long. I did what I needed to at work on Friday, but instead of getting back online as soon as I got home, I stayed away. I didn't even turn on the computer at all until about an hour ago.

Instead of spending mindless hours online, I slept late, made homemade lunches, baked bread and brownies, did laundry, roasted a chicken, watched a movie, cleaned my room, and spent time with my family. Without staying glued to the computer, I was able to accomplish a lot of needed tasks. I'm sure this isn't something that will be happening on a regular basis, but it felt great being able to get things done and not getting distracted by some random website.

What about you, could you take an internet sabbatical?

Simple Sunday

I had a choice today. I could either go shopping for some desperately needed work clothes, or I could keep my Sunday simple by not driving and accomplishing some tasks around the house. I opted for the latter. Yesterday was a simple day as well (I only left the house to pick up take-out for dinner), but I decided that I would devote Tuesday (when I don't have to work at my part-time job) to running errands, so I could stay at home and save money.

Today is devoted to cleaning my room, which is an unqualified disaster, doing some laundry, making bread, and applying for jobs. Dinner tonight is grilled chicken, risotto with peas, and wheat dinner rolls.

Simple Sunday

I like to spend my Sundays relaxing. I try to make them no-drive days (days where I don't leave the house, thus not driving to save gas and be more environmental) and just hang out at home. Today can't be a no-drive day because I'm driving home from spending the weekend with my best friend, but until I leave, we aren't leaving the house. We are watching movies and enjoying each other's company until I leave to go home. Most of my Sundays are the same; I spend the day reading, watching reruns of old shows with my mom, and preparing for the week ahead.

I find that spending my Sundays simply not only helps me stay relaxed and less stressed, but is also very frugal. If I don't leave the house, I'm not tempted to buy unnecessary things while out running errands. Plus it gives me more time to spend with my family.
